A Message of Condolence from the APOA to the Family of Dr. Ong Leong Boon

Dr. Ong Leong Boon

My dear Colleagues of the APOA:

It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Dr. Ong Leong Boon. OLB as he was also known, was a distinguished orthopaedic surgeon, parliamentarian, educator, sportsman, crooner and a loving husband to his wife Mildred, father to his children and a great friend to many.

He was the Founding Secretary General of the ASEAN Orthopaedic Association (AOA) in 1981.He held the position for 25 years with distinction and flying colors until he had to step down in 2006, when he started to be afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.

It was the exemplary leadership that he had shown during his term that brought forth the further advancement of Orthopedics in the ASEAN region. He instilled the spirit of cooperation, collaboration, and camaraderie among his colleagues in the AOA. He started the AOA junior and senior traveling fellowships, a yearly AOA event that has been continued up to this time. He extended the AOA exchange traveling fellowship to include collaboration with other international orthopaedic associations such as the AAOS, BOA, abd EFORT.

His passing will be deeply felt and grieved by his colleagues and friends from Singapore, the AOA and the rest of the world, by people whose lives he had touched during his lifetime.

On behalf of the APOA, I convey our deepest & heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his wife, Mildred and to Shing, Ping, Ming, and Ker Yu.
